Audiovisual Presentation

Q Audiovisual Presentation Due Date: November 24, 2020 This assignment will afford you considerable latitude to complete an assignment you deem “artistic” but you must adhere to the following: 1. The assignment must help us better understand the theme of the course. The theme of the course is the prison industrial complex- focusing specifically on race, gender, and mass incarceration. You must include either of these chapter’s in your presentation- Chapter’s 4, 5, 6,7, 8, 9,12- (only one) along with supporting evidence from the course readings and video clips and any other external source. 2. The assignment is an audiovisual presentation- there must be audio and images embedded 3. All “artistic” presentations must have 250-500-word description of the “artistic” piece that describes how the work relates to the theme of the course with a minimum of three (3) references. 4. Each “artistic” assignment must be submitted on the 21st at 11pm. Presentations must be between 10-15 minutes. 5. Students may work independently or form groups (max 3 students), groups are not required and I will not be placing anyone in groups. There is an email list in the discussion area if you are desirous of reaching out to someone to form a group. Every student in a group will receive the same grade. In the same way that you will be afforded considerable latitude, so will I be afforded considerable latitude in grading the assignment. Here are the key things I will be looking for: ? Creativity – Allow your (or your group) imagination to be unbounded during this assignment and tap into that part of your mind that allows you to dream of other worlds, then work towards showing us that through your work. ? Effort – It is painfully obvious if an assignment was done the night before so please ensure that you (or your group) put the same amount of effort that you would want the professor to put into your grade. ? Originality – I am looking for new ideas of expression across a wide range of artistic mediums. If there is something, you think the class has never or seldom seen before, and then please go for it! Now is the time to be a true original.

There exists are strong correlation between incarceration, interaction with the police and the justice system with the poor performance among school going children and overall unsuccessful outcome of life of the impacted individuals. Commonly understood as a school-to-prison pipeline, this book highlights the ways in which restrictive school policies contribute to low achievement, system participation, and other negative outcomes. Typically, attempts to reverse the effects of this pipeline have foregrounded colored boys, particularly black boys, who are suspended or expelled more than any other party (Crenshaw).
